Elementary Summer Enrichment
2017 Summer Enrichment General Information:
Research confirms that a student's rate of academic development declines over summer months when compared to academic development over the school year. In an effort to provide students with instructional support throughout the summer and avoid any decline in learning, we are continuing online instructional support programs for our students.
At the West Elementary Campus, students entering grades 1 - 5 are asked to complete a minimum of three (3) sessions each in i-Ready every week. The sessions are 15 - 20 minutes in length each and target academic areas at your child's instructional level. Your child is also recommended to complete one (1) hour of math lessons weekly through Khan Academy.
In order to assist your child with these sessions:
*Provide time for your child to complete these sessions without interruption;
*Keep your child’s login and password readily available;
*Refer to the back of this letter for instructions and reminders on Khan Academy.
Note that students have been accessing i-Ready all year and have their login/password in their agenda. We have also included it in the Summer Enrichment letter that was sent home. Students who complete a minimum of 15 hours in i-Ready before Friday, August 11, will receive a homework pass when they return to school. The last day to complete all summer sessions is Friday, August 11, 2017.
i-Ready can be accessed through the Elementary Information and Websites page on our school website.
*Go to http://pinescharter.net/
*West Campus K-8
*Hover over “Students” then click on “Elementary Information and Websites”
*Click on “i-Ready”
Thank you and we look forward to seeing additional academic growth in your child when we return in August.

Khan Academy information:
This summer, students in kindergarten through fifth grade will be using Khan Academy (https://www.khanacademy.org/) to help reverse summer learning loss. Students should complete work in the grade level that they just completed for review and work in the grade level they are entering for exposure.
Once logged in, students will be asked to select an avatar. After selecting an avatar, student will be asked to agree to the terms of service. Then, students may begin working in Khan Academy. Parents are able to enter their email address. This will allow you to track your child’s performance.
Students will be able to select the grade they just completed as well as the grade that they will be entering under Math by Grade. Once they have selected the grade level, they can select Explore or Practice.
An hour a week is all it takes for your child to strengthen his/her math skills and prepare for the year ahead. Let’s say goodbye to summer learning loss!
